NBA Season Preview 19/20
The L.A. Clippers (4.25) find themselves on the cusp of greatness after a memorable summer and are being given as the favourites to win the upcoming Championship. This project started two years ago when they hired Jerry West as advisor. Soon after, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were replaced by a low-cost, clean-slate approach designed to put the Clippers in position to strike big in free agency come the summer of 2019, and that is exactly what they did. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George need no introduction, they are two of the best defensive players in the league who double as 20-point scorers. These moves give the Clippers an advantage over other teams.
Next up are the L.A. Lakers (5.00), who have added Anthony Davis to their roster in order to aid LeBron James, who will be starting his 17th NBA season. For a star and talent of his magnitude, Davis’ ego is refreshingly submerged. He is not flustered by the fine print that comes with playing in LeBron’s shadow and seems quite willing to be a co-star in this instance. Elsewhere, the Houston Rockets (9.50) have all the potential to be the surprise package this season after James Harden and Russell Westbrook joined forces, but questions remain over the dynamic All-MVP backcourt. Speaking of MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo (3.75) was crowned as MVP last season and is the favourite to win it again. The ‘Greek Freak’ had a monster season and helped bring his team, the Milwaukee Bucks, to the Eastern Conference Finals, but lost to eventual winners the Toronto Raptors. As far as newcomers are concerned, the hype is all on Zion Williamson (1.62). A freak athlete with explosive athleticism, the former Duke star is the favourite to win ROY this upcoming season.
