The Fashion of Cheltenham Festival

Women’s Fashion Guide

The Cheltenham Festival officially does not have a dress code however smart is preferable and is often adopted. The course recommends dressing for the weather, as the month of March can vary in the UK weather-wise. For example in 2015 the Festival experienced lovely sunny spring weather, whereas other years has had snow and minus temperatures a week leading up to the Festival! A day at the races is not the warmest regardless at Cheltenham and whatever the temperature it is always a little windy!

Ladies Fashion Guide

Thousands of women from all around the world attend the Cheltenham Festival and will be sporting grace, glamour and dressing to impress over the week of racing entertainment.

As for the other three days of stellar racing, it is a good excuse to pull out the glad rags and fancy hat!

As a general guideline, it is all about staying warm and looking stylish at the same time. Smart country clothing, lots of brown and green combined with fur and tweed are a good guideline. As keeping warm is a must, many women wear a hat. A fedora or a beret is a chic, low maintenance option. A pair comfortable boots are highly recommended.

On day three of the Cheltenham Festival 2020 welcomes Ladies Day – the highlight of the fashion frenzy. A day where women go head to head for the honour of winning the amazing best dressed competition.

Men’s Fashion Guide

The flat cap and three piece suit is good racing attire for any man attending the Cheltenham Festival 2020. Or a two-piece suit or similar is advised for men attending the hospitality suites or Club Enclosure. The Peaky Blinders look has become very popular in recent years at Cheltenham Racecourse.

Fancy dress is allowed as long as it is not offensive. However, it is banned from the Club Enclosure on Gold Cup Day and during the Festival.

Again, the aim is about staying warm and looking stylish, one cannot go wrong with a long wool coat, flat cap and a scarf coupled with a dressy outfit/suit.

Overall, the Cheltenham Festival is a highlight of the racing calendar and a great excuse to get dressed up! Many famous faces have been spotted attending the event in past years including the likes of Zara Tindell, Lily Allen and even Jeremy Kyle. As there is no dress code, it is a good excuse to bring personality into an outfit and go enjoy the Cheltenham Races feeling your best.
