Serie A Season Preview 2019-2020
Juventus have won the last eight Serie A titles and given the additions of De Ligt, Rabiot and Ramsey amongst others, they once again start as favourites (@1.43) to lift the trophy at the end of the season. Inter Milan follow suit (@6.00) with the appointment of serial winner Conte and the acquisition of Lukaku from Man United making them series titles contenders over the summer, with more additions expected to be made before the transfer window closes to further enhance their chances. Napoli are quoted (@7.00) as they have been Juventus’ closest rivals in recent years but have failed to make significant additions over the summer, as they have so far failed to acquire long term targets James Rodriguez and Icardi. Milan (@26.00) and AS Roma (34.00) come in next, as these teams changed managers over the summer and in the process of yet another rebuilding project.

Goalscorer odds
After scoring 21 goals and assisting another 8 in his first season in the Serie A, Cristiano Ronaldo starts as favourite (@2.50) to finish the season as top goalscorer. Milan’s new no. 9, Piątek is quoted (@5.00) having scored 22 goals in his breakout season in Serie A, following his move to AC Milan in January from Genoa. Atalanta’s Zapata, who finished last season as runner up in the goal scoring charts with 23 goals is expected to have yet another good season and is given (@8.00) to go one better this time around. Inter Milan’s new boy, Lukaku is (@10.00) to top the goal scoring charts, with Sampdoria’s 36 year old striker Quagliarella, who finished last season as top goalscorer with 26 goals to his name, (@11.00) to repeat the feat despite his age.
Inter Milan’s new manager, Antonio Conte was adamant that he wanted Romelu Lukaku to lead his attack in his preferred 3-5-2 system, and finally got his man after pursuing him all summer for an initial €76 Million plus add-ons. The former Man United striker has scored goals wherever he has been, and despite not having the best of season’s last time around in England, he is expected to have a big impact in Serie A. Conte’s wing back system is surely to provide the Belgian striker with plenty of crosses to feed off, something that he was desperately lacking at Man United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His big price tag comes with big expectations and a few concerns given his poor record against the big teams and his reputation as a flat track bully, but one thing is for sure, Romelu Lukaku scores wherever he plays and he will be extra motivated to prove his doubters wrong.
Cristiano Ronaldo will play in his favourite left forward position in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system, a position which he favours instead that of a classic no. 9 spot previously held under Max Allegri last season. He will be allowed to roam freely in the last third of the pitch, and given the amount of talent playing in the midfield behind him and having now adjusted to Serie A, many are expecting an even better season this time around from the Portuguese superstar. Despite being 34 years old, he continues to defy the odds and improve year after year, having now won the league in 3 different countries and he will be adamant to top the goal scoring charts this time around after failing to do so last year. His determination and will to succeed are second to none, and one would not bet against him to win the accolade come the end of the season.
